Hi,
We are a Finnish-Irish couple. I'm 22 years old girl from Finland and my boyfriend is 27 year old irishman. We've been searching online to volunteer in Africa, but most of the places seem to have very high costs which we can't pay as we are both students. We are ready to pay for flights and living costs though. We are very passionate about our cause and would love to volunteer in many areas, my boyfriend is a carpenter, studying architechture and i'm studying sociology and law. Preferably we would be seeking a placement in orphanage or in School helping kids. If someone would have any ideas where to start looking, I would be very happy about any information! We are not looking for a holiday and don't expect anything more than enough to survive with and to see that one person actually can make a difference in this world! Cheers!

my experience with www.khayavolunteer.com was very good. They are cheap and your money is for the volunteer projects like childcare and animals-care.

Hi there have you checked out volunteer 4 africa? There is a link to them on this site, as well as links to lots of other free or low cost volunteering orgnaisations many of which probably include africa http://www.budgetvolunteering.com/links_projects.htmlI did a lot of free or low cost volunteering last year in Latin America using this site, it hardly cost me a thing because living costs are so cheap in developing countries. Your flight will be your main expense. Oh and remember insurance for volunteering and visas - see the insurance & visas page of the site above Good luck!

Hi there, You can check out http://www.kicvop.orgKICVOP is a community-based NGO, operating on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. We are currently offering a short-term volunteering programme which usually lasts less than one month (the duration can be prolonged on request). Potential volunteers would be expected to carry out specific activities within the community such as community mapping, household interview and English teaching. The fee of $90 per week includes a shared bedroom(single room can be obtained with little extra fee), a shared bathroom, breakfast and lunch, induction training, necessary assistance from local volunteers when performing your job and working five days a week. For your case, you could take part in our long-term programme which will cost you $310 per month (which is cheaper than paying weekly). By doing so, you are also able to be involved in other bigger projects. Please do check out the website for info on other projects and do not hesitate to contact me landonmeng@gmail.com, as I am currently working here in Kazo.

Hey there, I realise that I will seem to be tooting my own horn here, and I guess I am, but hey! Me and a friend faced this same issue, which is why we decided to start http://www.volunteeringinfo.org. There's lots of information about volunteering on there, and most importantly we've let organisations list themselves on the site for free and our visitors can then search through our database (also free, of course!) for an organisation that suits their needs using criteria such as country, price (free is an option, over 30 free organisations listed at time of writing!), job type, etc! May be worth checking out if you're still looking. Best of luck!

Teach Literacy at Weaver Bird: Community For the Arts. Weaver Bird: Community For The Arts is an organization that uses art to empower and sustain the Ndegeya community, a small village just outside of Masaka, Uganda. Weaver Bird facilitates various programs to enable and sustain the community through art such as the Women’s Handicrafts project and COCHICO children’s library. We have recently opened COCHICO Children’s Library. We are facilitating three Literacy programs through the COCHICO Lib: After School Literacy program, Trainer of Trainers program, Community Links Project. The objective of COCHICO Lib is to develop literate individuals who have the capacity to be successful, competent, independent, lifelong learners. Through these programs we hope to promote Literacy throughout the Ndegeya community.
